1. Coalcliff, Paterson Rd Coalcliff Rock Pool, just south of Coalcliff Beach, was built in 1921 and became a popular leisure spot for the locals and tourists in the mining town. Boat Harbour Rock Pool is a stunning ocean pool, perfect for laps or a quick dip and a sunbathe on the rock platforms. We first stumbled across this beautiful ocean pool by accident a few years ago when we'd been exploring the headland at Gerringong looking for whales.

This is where you'll find Cooke Park, which is a lovely oceanside park with amenities such as BBQs and public toilets. Around the corner from the park, hidden from sight, there is another stunning ocean rock pool.

On the way home from Rosedale we stopped at Gerringong Boat Harbour to take some photos of the rock pool and surrounds. (On the way down we stopped at Werri Beach, a bit further north. From the 1820s, red cedar was shipped from Gerringong's small boat harbour. Once the cedar was cut out, dairying became the district's main industry.

And the answer is yes! All pools are regularly inspected for cleanliness and potential safety hazards. In summer, the pools get drained and cleaned regularly using a mild chlorine solution. After cleaning, the pools normally fill back up with ocean water through natural tidal action.

This is an irregular-shaped pool constructed in the rock shelf at the south end of Werri Beach with access via Pacific Avenue or Geering Street.

1905 According to the Illawarra Steam Navigation Company's illustrated handbook, Gerringong had 'good seabaths in a park with lawn tennis courts' and was becoming 'a favourite resort for visitors'. 1911 Opening of new men-only baths in a more exposed site at Boatharbour enabled the existing baths to be reserved for use solely by women and children.
