My first attempt I spread hay out over black plastic that was fastened to the cattle panels then fastened 2x4 wire over that. It lasted about a yr then started falling out.

I was planning to make the bale 6' wide and the cattle panels are 16' long, so one of these should fit over the top perfect. Then, the sides will need to have another one. But, I'm building 2, so I can split one between the 2 blinds. They're cheap at $26 and should last longer than the erosion blankets.

StrikerII. 1097 posts · Joined 2009. #17 · Jan 2, 2015. Attach it with either zip ties or small lengths of black bungee cord with a loop on the end. That's how the original hay bale blinds are made. I used them the last 2 years in Iowa and Missouri hunting/guiding.

The basic frame for the hay bale blind is made out of construction grade plywood and 2"x 4" construction lumber. If you want to, you can upgrade that to pressure treated lumber, but we're going to be covering the whole thing with black plastic, so it should be waterproof. Round hay bales are usually about six feet in diameter and five feet wide.
