The pot can be washed when new with water and a scrub brush! We like to melt into a stainless steel form with thin fire under it and a piece of glass that fits in the form. Then drip onto it. Makes clean up much easier and no stuck kiln wash! Be sure to read the full tutorials!

For a 12″ round disk pot melt, you should use about 3.5 lbs of glass scraps. A smaller hole causes the glass to flow slower, and a larger hole will make it flow faster. Make sure you're taking the shape of your kiln shelf into account, as any dips or curves in your shelf will probably blend and alter the outcome further. Shop our kiln shelves.

The yellow fused glass pot-melt I put on a wood frame. The only thing wrong with the yellow piece is I didn't secure it well enough and it moved.

To carry out a pot melt proceed as follows: Step 1. Place glass pieces in selected pot. Step 2. Using either prepared kiln shelf or container place in glass kiln and build framework to hold pot. Step 3. Center pot on framework, check to ensure that posts will not come into contact with glass pour. Step 4.

It is often talked about as a great way to use leftover pieces of glass or as a way to recycle a failed project. This technique has been on my "to-try" list for a long time. The basic process involves suspending a clay pot with a hole, or multiple holes, in the bottom of it over a kiln shelf.

Great way to use scrap glass. Line your stainless steel forms with 1/8" fiber paper. Where the ends meet put a small piece of scrap thinfire behind the seam as insurance. Put the form on thinfire or a well kiln washed shelf. Be sure the 1/8" is pushed all the way to the shelf leaving no gaps.

To melt marbles in pottery, make a small shallow dish out of clay. Then, bisque fire the dish. Some potters put marbles directly onto bisque ware before firing. Others decorate the bisque first with slip, underglaze, or glaze. Then place a few marbles in the dish before glaze firing.
