In place of the original L-head six is a 627-hp 454-cu.in. LSX V-8 topped with an intake, custom machined by Pete, to accept a Holley Quick Fuel 1,250-cfm carburetor. The carburetor has been modified as well: sleeved down to 850 cfm to make the fuel delivery less aggressive. Pete's additional custom engine-bay touches include a cowl induction.

The short and sweet of the Aero was that Willys was a pioneer in the compact-car field, starting way back in the early '30s. After World War II, the company couldn't find anyone to stamp out car bodies for them, so it whipped up a variety of vehicles inspired by the World War II jeep.

The new 1952 Aero-Willys came in four series: Aero-Lark, Aero-Wing, Aero-Ace and Aero-Eagle. Power came from a 2.6 litre (161 cu in.) six-cylinder engine. The Lark's had side valves, and developed 75 horsepower. The others had the same basic engine, but with an F-head conversion (inlet valves in the cylinder head, exhausts in the block), good.

Willys also designed and showed a larger sports car called the "Capeta" (Devil) in 1964, powered by the 2.6-litre six-cylinder Aero engine. In 1965, Willys-Overland do Brasil and Renault began collaborating on a new front-wheel drive car, called "Project M" and meant to replace the aging Dauphine.
