GSG-9 (GrenzSchutzGruppe 9) is a special forces counter-terrorism service of the German government. The group was formed on April 17th, 1973 and features approximately 250 personnel under the authority of the German Government and its Federal Police.

Since the middle of 2017, the GSG 9 has been commissioned by the Federal Minister of the Interior to build up a further deployment unit with a location in Berlin. At present, comprehensive planning and organizational measures are taking place. The goal is to be on site in about 3-5 years with the planned target strength.

Die Ausrüstung der GSG 9
Gemäß § 8 (2) Bundespolizeigesetz kann die Bundespolizei zur Rettung von Personen im Ausland eingesetzt werden. Neben dem KSK (Kommando Spezialkräfte) der Bundeswehr kann somit auch die GSG 9 zur Rettung von Menschenleben im Ausland befugt sein. Die jeweiligen Zuständigkeitsgrenzen sind durch die Ministerien klar definiert.
