Blueing goes a very long way so be sure to use just a few drops. Mix one or two drops of bluing into a gallon of water so the solution is a pale blue. Then add the mixture to your soaking bucket or tub. Never add bluing directly without first diluting it. Add your linens and soak for half an hour. Rinse thoroughly.

Finally, Here's How to Take Care of Your Vintage Linens

Firstly, soak the linen in distilled water for several hours. Then place it in a large sink or container full of hot water and a gentle detergent. Agitate but don't scrub or pummel. Leave to soak again, then rinse with distilled water. Repeat this process until the linen is clean, but bear in mind that very old stains may never come out entirely.

Method #1: Oxygen Bleach. The most gentle method to whiten whites that have turned yellow is to mix a solution of warm water and oxygen-based bleach powder. Follow the package recommendations as to how much powder to use per gallon of water. Mix enough of the oxygen bleach and water solution to cover the garments.

Then, fill the bowl or tub with warm water and 1/2 cup of white vinegar (for 4 quarts of water). Swish your linens in the vinegar water, and then let it sit for about 30 minutes. The vinegar will help pull out any residual soap from the fabric. Rinse one last time and let your linens dry flat on a towel or rack.

If linens are yellowed, add 1/2 cup oxygen bleach to 2 to 3 gallons of water (do not use chlorine bleach, which can weaken fibers). Gently agitate by hand, then let soak until.

I will let these pieces stay in the water about 24 hours. Because the soak solution is so concentrated, the pieces will require a great deal of rinsing. When you think you've rinsed enough, do it one more time but add 1/2 to 1 cup of clear (distilled) vinegar to the rinse water to remove any remaining soap residue.
