There's this picture of the big black marble statue of Martin Luther with the demolished Frauenkirche in the background. It gave me this weird apocalyptic feeling. The church is back on its feet again and everything appears normal again. The statue was erected in 1835 in front of the 18th century Lutheran church.

Destroyed during the Allied firebombing of Dresden towards the end of World War II, the church was reconstructed between 1994 and 2005.

Located in Dresden's Neumarkt directly in front of the rebuilt Frauenkirche, the bronze statue of Martin Luther was created by the sculptor Adolf Von Donndorf in 1885. While this area of the city was reduced to rubble during the fire bombing of WWII in February 1945, the statue of Martin Luther stayed standing.

Luther-Denkmal. Das Denkmal für den Reformator Martin Luther, in den Jahren 1516 und 1517 in Dresden zu Besuch gewesen, befindet sich auf dem Dresdner Neumarkt, direkt vor der Frauenkirche. Geschaffen wurde das Denkmal von dem Bildhauer Adolf von Donndorf (1835-1916) und in Bronze gegossen wurde es in der Dresdner Kunst- und Glockengießerei.
