Students can begin the HUT program in the Fall, Spring or Summer term. The HUT program is a minimum of two semesters and a maximum of four.We encourage students to review the admission criteria, attend an information session, and submit an eligibility form during the semester before their intended HUT start semester.

In the summer you can get to the Broome Hut by hiking along US Forest Service Trail N137 (Second Creek Trail). This well-established summer trail leads to the hut and beyond. It is approximately 1 mile from the Second Creek Trailhead to the hut, but the trail does gain almost 800 feet of elevation so be prepared for steep, rocky sections.

The average suggested summer route to a hut is 8+ miles long and climbs 1500-2500 feet in elevation from a trailhead that is at 8,000 feet or higher. Suggested summer routes are not marked or maintained. A detailed topographic map, a compass, and the ability to use them are absolutely essential for a successful trip. Someone in each group must.

The hut was part of the 10th Mountain Division Hut to Hut system that runs from Aspen to Eagle or Aspen to Vail. The system is a series of 20 to 30 Colorado mountain cabins that are strategically placed approximately 6 miles apart so that it's possible to traverse the area on foot or via backcountry skiing in the winter from hut to hut.
