U can make a "freesstanding" path while holding "ctrl" and then use "shift" to use a height. Then u can build a platform and go downwards. In the settings for the paths u can set a box for the options to build tunnels and/or to flat the terrain. For me this option is the badest but maybe try all to get a feeling for different options in.
