Twin Liquors vs Specs vs Total Wine . Can you guys all give me your opinions on these 3 largest liquor retailers in Texas? I am moving to Austin (have been to each a few times) and am curious what the consensus opinion on each is. My biggest priorities are selection and quality service in a store, followed by price of course.

But I will say that Spec's has a superior selection on Rum compared to Total Wine, and you'll find help picking out what you want easier at Spec's. Total Wine does not give mixed case discount on liquor. Spec's does. Spec's are hit and miss on wine depending on location. They have a lot of smaller stores around DFW that were old Centennial locations. Most of those focus on liquor and beer. For wine I go to Beverage Depot in FW or Goody Goody in Dallas. Usually find good liquor deals there.

Typically, Specs and Total Wine will be the lowest prices for liquor, outside of any clearance or sale. If you're near a Twin Liquor, twice a year they have a sale that's a few dollars cheaper than either. Depending on what you're buying, might be worth keeping tabs on your local stores, they might be a dollar cheaper on vodka but $10 over on.

For cigars check out Habana House. It's honestly a mix of both since they have different whiskies, but Total Wine edges Specs out by a bit due to their inventory having more. Total wine is my favorite, for price and selection. I prefer Total Wine if not going local. Twin is pretty good and my go to local chain.

After a couple rounds of price shopping Specs and Total Wine, I automatically head to Total Wine now. I went to Specs one other time looking for a specific Scotch/Bourbon/Whiskey but left empty handed. I also went to Specs in suburbia and Paid FAR more for a 6 pack of beer than I would have at Tom Thumb.
