1/2 Weathered Oak to 1/2 Classic Gray; 3/4 Classic Gray to 1/4 Jacobean; Jacobean; None of these really gave me the look I wanted from the cedar. Jacobean was way too dark. Weathered oak and and Classic Gray did not cover the red in the cedar enough. I needed something to neutralize the red in the cedar. There were a few swirls from the sander.

SJ McCarthy. White oak is a MUCH better option if you want gray. The other option (for those with very healthy budgets) is European Oak. European Oak is a soft silvery colour. It is beautiful. It is expensive.it can give you the soft white/gray colour without adding a stain. Your budget will dictate your options.

To keep it brown without pulling orange you could add something like espresso to the mix. 1/3 espresso, 1/3 weathered oak, 1/3 classic gray. Or if you want it darker try 1/2 espresso. If you want it lighter you could try a section of floor using 50% classic gray and 50% weathered oak or 50% gray 50% provincial.

Yes, you can put a weathered oak stain on red oak floors. Weathered oak is a mixture of gray and tan meant to look like oak exposed to the elements. Rather than being a cool gray, it has warm yellow undertones. When you put weathered oak over top of red oak floors, the red is toned down a bit. The floors still look very natural, though.

After lots of mixing & matching I came up with a Minwax stain mixture combination that worked perfectly for us! In the end, I mixed equal parts Special Walnut, Classic Gray & Weathered Oak to get a beautiful & timeless stain color. All of these colors mixed together turned out to be my favorite combination that isn't too dark or too light.
